Ignoring love's pleas, the Morning Star spoke in his deceptive dialect; "Why do you love these pitiful creatures?" He answered; "I have become flesh of their flesh and bone of their bone. I am forever in their in their world..." (excerpt from Image Maker Beginnings.)
We relate to much of life in spatial terms. A mile driven is a short one, while a mile walked is long. The stars are close enough to see but too far to touch. And when someone we love is gone, we feel the pain of their absence and the vacancy of that seperation.
I think's its safe to assume that most of us think of God in spatial terms as well. We think of him as being "up there"while we're "down here." And I'll admit it sure feels that way sometimes!
But we have reason to believe he's closer than he may appear in our reflective mirrors, and that our feelings of being seperated from him cannot be trusted.
The following is a list of a few popular reasons why some think God has decided to take a hike and leave them like a bad habit:
1.Wrong doing/not measuring up
2.Guilt/shame/self-loathing
3.Life ran over you, back up and ran over you again
4.You're always in a crisis (and God does'nt care)
5.The devil is so powerful that not even God can reach you
6.You're so powerful that you've distanced youself from him
7. God hates you, can't stand the sight of you and refuses to come any closer
8.Your pastor or spiritual leader has told you God is far away from you due to some failure on your part.
If any of these can seperate you from God, then the God you believe in is not a very good one. And if he can let you slip from his grasp so easily, he's not a very powerful one either.
The Good News lies in the fact that Jesus, being God, became fully human, and in becoming fully human he entered our world--forever. He has popped up in every culture on every continent and island of the sea because it's his world too and he has big plans for it.
Remember that you are forever joined to God through his Son, by his Son, and for his Son, and nothing can seperate you from the love of God expressed in Christ Jesus. He is the great connector, so relax and learn the deep riches of this truth.

Living in spacial terms does hurt, because we always put expectations on the situation, the end result, others and ourselves and in most cases God! I want to live in the now where I accept myself, others and the Creator in this moment without judging myself, others or Him based on who He is, who we are TODAY, instead of measuring and comparing. BTW Can't wait to rea the book!
ReplyDeleteSatan is a Tool and his most effective tool is the illusion of separation.
ReplyDeleteThat's good. I never thought about spatial terms. You're so right though. Many times these ideas about spatial terms cause us to have a negative or positive perspective on life. When I'm working out 20 secs of hard lifting takes forever while the 10 secs of rest is never long enough.
